My friend Amy and I have started a new blog, Mommy and Me Giveaways and will have a review and giveaway from Thirsties very soon! The Thirsties review was supposed to go here on Davey's Diapers, but Thirsties was nice enough to agree to letting us start off our new blog with that review and giveaway if my followers from Davey's Diapers will start following our new blog! I have not figured out how to use google friend connect with wordpress, or if it's even possible! But there is a subscribe by email feature, and if you are a wordpress member you can click follow in the toolbar, and of course if you use another reader such as blogger or google reader you can always put our link in there!

My friend Amy has decided to join me in writing reviews and posting giveaways! I know Davey's Diapers has just started up, but we will be coming up with a new name, considering her little girl is named Jessica (and she has another little one on the way!), we didn't think using Davey's name would be right. We will also be moving to a new blog hosting site instead of blogspot because we really need to post somewhere that has numbered comments!

I will let you all know when the new blog is started up, Amy will be posting her first review sometime in January.

Does anyone know of blog hosting sites that have numbered comments? Or a better way to do the entries so it is easier to figure out the winner? I've seen some people use Google spreadsheets for giveaways, though I don't know much about that.

Also if anyone has any ideas for names for our blog, this is the one thing holding us up right now! We haven't been able to come up with a name that isn't already taken by other blogs or online baby stores! If we choose a name you came up with we'll give you credit for it on our new blog! I'd like to offer a prize for the winning name, but funds are short right now. I'm just hoping someone creative will be nice enough to help us out with ideas... the sooner we get a name, the sooner the blog will be up and running with a new giveaway!

Monkey Foot Designs Wet Bag Review and Giveaway

Monkey Foot Designs was kind enough to send me a medium size Pod Posey Wet Bag to try out, and one to give away to our lucky winner! Monkey Foot Wet Bags come in 4 different sizes to suit your needs. The medium size we are giving away is 9x11 inches and will hold 2 cloth diapers and wipes, good for short trips. It is also a good size to hold toiletries on trips to make sure they don't leak!

Outer and inner layers are sewn separately to avoid wicking and also serged for reinforcement. Seams of the inner ProCare layer are permanently sealed with a nonchemical method to keep water and odor inside where they belong! I have not had any problems with odors while using this wet bag, I've used it for messy diapers and could not smell a thing when the bag was closed! The bag closes with an extra sturdy nontoxic zipper.

Rockin' Green Detergent Review and Giveaway

I was recently sent a sample of Rockin' Green Cloth Diaper & Laundry Detergent to try out. I only used it on my diapers, as I had been trying out another type of detergent for clothes that did not work so well on diapers. That detergent had caused buildup really fast in my diapers and I was getting leaks constantly! Thankfully my Rockin' Green sample came in the mail just as I was deciding I really needed to strip them, and knowing that my homemade detergent doesn't work so well for diapers and did not want to use it. I was following the stripping instructions that FuzziBunz sent me, so I did not do as Rockin' Green suggests and soak the diapers, but I used it through 2 hot washes with the diapers and then proceeded to do the washes and rinses without any detergent. After that I stopped having leaks! The Rockin' Green detergent worked great! I continued to use it for regular washing of my cloth diapers, 2 tablespoons during the hot wash, and have not had any more problem with buildup and repelling.

Rockin' Green comes in different formulas and several scents, or unscented if you prefer, so there is something for everyone! I received the Classic Rock formula in Clean Linen scent. I will admit I generally do not like scented detergents, but the Clean Linen did not leave a strong scent on the diapers after washing, but did leave them smelling clean. Classic Rock is the original formula, and is good for moderate hard water, or if you are battling the stinkies. Soft Rock is a gentler formula made for your sensitive little one and comes in unscented or you can choose to have it lightly scented. Coming in 2010 is a new formula called Hard Rock, which is designed for the most troubling water types! Each batch is made by Kim, owner of Rockin' Green, in her own home and she uses it on her own laundry and diapers.

No more Facebook entries

I just found out about some new Facebook regulations (that they did not bother to tell anyone about apparently) that say that we can't use Facebook to promote giveaways or contests. Which means I can no longer use "Become a fan on Facebook" for either Davey's Diapers or the company sponsoring the giveaway as an extra entry. From what I understand, I am not supposed to even advertise the giveaways on Facebook.

Because of this, on the FuzziBunz giveaway I just had to delete any "became a fan on facebook" entries so I won't get in trouble. You can still follow me on Twitter, and Tweet for extra entries... well until Twitter decides to start these same regulations...

FuzziBunz One Size Diaper Review and Giveaway

I recently ordered some FuzziBunz One Size Diapers because I had heard such good things about them, and I have to say that everything I heard was true! I absolutely love these diapers! I was using another brand One Size diaper that became too small for Davey, but FuzziBunz fits great, with room to grow!

FuzziBunz One Size Diapers fit babies from 7-35 pounds. The legs adjust with elastic adjusted by buttons up to 8 settings, and the waist adjusts with snaps for 4+ settings. They were very easy to adjust when I got them. Actually I guessed about where it needed to be set, but later noticed FuzziBunz makes it very easy by putting a sizing chart on their One Size Diaper page to let you know what button and snap it needs to be set on depending on the weight of your baby! Once you get your first diaper set to fit your baby, you can set all your others without trying them on because the elastic in the legs is numbered for ease of adjusting!

FuzziBunz One Size Diapers are very durable! The snaps should last 3+ years, and the elastic will last as long as it will and then can be easily replaced! No sewing and ripping out seams to replace it, just thread it through the holes it comes through where it adjusts!

FuzziBunz One Size Diapers are a pocket diaper, with a soft waterproof outer layer of PUL that comes in 8 different colors, and the inside is lined with fleece to keep your baby dry. These diapers are so soft on the inside, softer than other diapers we have used and they do a great job at keeping Davey dry!

One of the big things I look for in a cloth diaper is that it does not leak. I have been using FuzziBunz for about a week now and have had only a couple of leaks, and those were only due to waiting too long to change Davey's diaper. Generally we have had no leaks! FuzziBunz One Size Diapers come with 2 absorbent inserts. I use the longer one during the day, and use both at night for extra protection against leaks. He has not leaked at all during the night with these diapers!

I also have to say I absolutely love the snaps! Previous diapers and covers we used closed with velcro, and Davey recently figured out how to take them off! The snaps are harder for him to do, he cannot take his diaper off now! I'm sure he will figure it out eventually, but at least now I don't have to leave pants on him all the time (which make it harder for him to crawl)!

Davey's Diapers Contest

Davey's Diapers started out as a personal blog, mostly just to post about what types of diapers we were trying out and things like that. It mostly became a place to post about other giveaways to get entries to win. Well now Davey's Diapers will start having its own reviews and giveaways! I already have a couple lined up!

I am starting a contest for Davey's Diaper followers. I will send the winner a $25 gift certificate to Diaper Junction (my favorite cloth diaper store).

So what do you have to do??

I need a logo for Davey's Diapers and I am not very good with graphic design, so I'm asking my followers to design an image for Davey's Diapers! You can use images (that aren't copyrighted) of diapers on it, or make your own pattern or style for it.

I'm currently using a picture of Davey, and if you want to incorporate that picture of him in it (it is the best one I have of him in a cloth diaper) then here it is:

I have not quite decided on if I really want to use a picture of Davey or not. So I am going to allow 2 entries per person. 1 with this picture used in it and 1 without it. If you only want to do 1 or the other that is fine too!

The only rules are:

You must be a Davey's Diapers follower.
It must say Davey's Diapers on it.
There must NOT be any copyrighted images used on it.
It must be 300 x 300 pixels and saved as a JPEG file.

Kissa's v2.0 fitted diapers are more absorbent than the original Kissaluvs. They are made with microfiber soakers instead of terry cloth. There is elastic at the leg and back openings to contain messes, and it has snap closures.

gDiapers

I recently received 12 gDiapers from Miracle Diapers. They gave me 2 snap-in liners for each gPants, and 12 infant prefolds to use as inserts. I have mixed feelings on the gDiapers. To be honest, I hated the gDiapers at first. It was difficult to put on Davey the first time, with the velcro being in the back, especially when Davey likes to squirm a lot now during diaper changes! A friend pointed out to me that the velcro in the back would help with babies that like to take their diapers off, so I suppose it's a good thing. It did get easier to put them on him as I got used to it.

Once I got used to how they work - how to put them on Davey, how to stuff the snap-in liner just right, they didn't seem so bad... I really liked how much less room they took up in my diaper bag when going places. Just put a couple of gPants, extra liners, and enough inserts, and it takes up much less space than the other diapers I was using! Definitely a plus if it means I can carry a smaller diaper bag! They do have a trimmer fit than the diapers I was using, which is nice because his pants fit better with them.

The problem I have had with the gDiapers is leaking. I make sure to put them on Davey just right, making sure the insert isn't sticking out of the liner anywhere. I make sure the diaper fits snuggly on him, the elastic on the liners is just right around his legs. However, pretty often they leak in the front at the top even though I make sure he is pointed down and the insert isn't sticking out there. Also he has leaked out the leg really bad a couple of times, even though the diaper was on just right. It seems even when I double stuff the liner, I have to change him much more often than with his pocket diapers that aren't double stuffed. I have tried different liners in the gDiapers instead of the prefolds that MD sent me. I've tried Kissaluvs Super Soaker liners by themselves and along with BumGenius liners. I've tried BumGenius liners alone, single or double stuffed. No matter what I try he leaks at the side around the leg or at the top if I don't change him really often!

Also he is tending to have more diaper rash with these. Since the insert is right on his skin, he stays wetter than he does with pocket diapers. With the pocket diapers we were using, he never got diaper rash (except when he had an allergic reaction to food). We had this problem when we were using prefolds with covers in the beginning of our cloth-diapering days also.

Of course, this may not be a problem with every baby. I'm sure gDiapers are great for some babies, but they just don't seem to be a good diaper for Davey. I wish they would have worked for him, because they do seem great, with the trimmer fit, and taking up less space in the diaper bag. But unfortunately I cannot keep using them if they are giving him more diaper rash.

Miracle Diapers

Cloth diapering the nation... one baby at a time

I found out about Miracle Diapers a few months ago from the Thirsties website, and found out I could get cloth diapers nearly free! Miracle Diapers is an organization that is "cloth diapering the nation one baby at a time." They help people who want to cloth diaper but can't afford it by giving them diapers on loan. If your baby is under 12 months, you get 12 diapers at a time. They send you the size you need, and when your baby outgrows them you send them back and get the next size if you need them. They do charge a shipping and handling fee, but you are getting 12 diapers for nearly nothing compared to what it would cost to buy them!

I applied when I first found out about it, and sent in my paperwork... Well it turned out they never got my paperwork. Recently they were going through old applications and giving us another chance to get approved. So I quickly took pictures of the documents they needed and emailed them, and not long afterward found out I was approved! I signed the agreement, paid the shipping and handling fee, and should have 12 "new to me" diapers pretty soon!

When I heard about this, I really thought this was a great organization! When I first decided to cloth diaper, I started out with a couple of covers with prefolds to see how I liked it... I didn't much care for using prefolds, but it is so expensive to get started with cloth diapers! I eventually did shell out the money for some contours, because they would be less bulky than prefolds... but when he outgrew those I realized it would be cheaper to buy one-size diapers in the long run, although expensive starting out! Well I did buy some, but I have just enough to get through one day, sometimes having to use prefolds also, and I can't afford more diapers. So Miracle Diapers is turning out to be a blessing for me, and I'm sure for many other cloth diapering families in the nation!

Here's Davey in his Bumkins "On the Go" diaper cover... It's so cute!

I'm almost done with his second pair of longies! I'm using the "Little Fire Pants" pattern from With a Tangled Skein. I'll post pictures whenever I finish! These are going to be bigger and fit looser, they should look a lot better than the first pair! The first one, the sizes were NOT made for people using cloth diapers! Way too small in the rise.

I made my first pair of Longies for Davey! It was using a pattern I found on Etsy.com... Here they are:

I'm working on making my own pattern now, so I can sell some on Etsy! I'm switching from double crochet to single crochet, so it can be used as a diaper cover, and it won't be so see-through. I probably won't use them as diaper covers actually, because Davey is a heavy wetter, but they'd make great pajama pants with T-shirts!
